LOVE YOUR BODY AS THE WORK OF ART IT IS

This Art Project is aimed at supporting women of all ages including menstruating girls under the age of 16 to claim the beauty of being a woman and to celebrate our beautiful bodies.

ART DAY FOR WOMEN AND MENSTRUATING GIRLS

Get in tune with your body. Get inside how you feel about your body. Learn to Appreciate it. To Love it. Let it show you what a gift it is to have a body and how beautiful you truly are.

INTERVIEW with Artist Lisa Lochhead about the Project.

 What is a Woman?

A woman is an adult human female. She is the female biological sex with reproductive organs that creates and carries life in her womb, nurtures life through her breasts and has given birth to every human being on this planet. Yet increasingly we watch as current societal pressures seek to deny the rights of biological born girls and women. To the point that many, including female politicians seem unable to even define what a woman is.

Why is this Art Project so important?

Alongside the steady erosion of hard-earned woman’s rights and the safeguarding of our children - in today’s modern world we are saturated with images of woman as unachievable air brushed realities of how women should be and look. Our girls and young women are socially pressured by the online virtual world that is creating a deeper disassociation with the female body. Many are experiencing the increasing effects of body dysphoria alongside the current trend of gender ideology creating confusion in this vulnerable age group of under 18 years olds. Our youth are saturated by the online virtual world with images of porn, violence towards women, child grooming, men saying they are women and the erosion of single sex spaces – female changing rooms, abuse centres, rape crisis centres, hospital wards, prisons.

Even the language that describes woman, womanhood, mother and motherhood is under threat. If you take away the language that describes woman you take away woman’s rights. She becomes invisible.

Women everywhere can find it hard to accept their body. How it looks. How it changes. Develops. Ages. And what it means to have a female body in our modern day society in a growing world of distortion and denial of woman and womanhood which is becoming increasingly riddled with fear.

The Aim

To provide a creative and sacred space for women and menstruating girls to get deeper in touch with the body and to creatively express their relationship with their body. To nurture a deeper love and acceptance for the body. And through this creative process you get to see how your body is in fact a beautiful work of art.

TAP INTO THE HEALING POWER OF CREATIVITY

How will we do this?

Everyone who comes will lay on a large sheet of paper and we will outline the shape of your body on the paper. Then you will work with paints, felt tips, collaging anything goes in expressing how you feel about each area of your body. Each finished piece will be utterly unique and full of a depth of meaning to each girl/woman that participates.

This art session will take place over one full day.

The Vision is to also create a multi-location Art Exhibition celebrating Woman and Womanhood. Sending out a positive and life affirming image of Woman and Womanhood to girls and women everywhere.

The Vision

The aim is to take the project to other towns in England and Wales where we have those in the locality supporting the Vision for the project. Or maybe you would like to support the project happening in your area - just get in touch with the leader of the Art Project- Lisa Lochhead by clicking the button.

The overall Vision would be to have one large ‘I Am Woman’ Art Exhibition. With the work from each locality being exhibited at the same time in every location that has taken part.

Benefits

This art project is a way of supporting girls, mums with girls and women in the community in a creative, fun and life enhancing way. Plus we are creating a safe space, connection, support and sisterhood for girls and women in the community on very real social issues.

Plus there is the chance to nurture the power of creativity, community and even a wider connection with other groups of girls and women in other towns.

CLAIM YOUR BEAUTIFUL BODY AND HONOUR ITS INNATE INTELLIGENCE
